Ways to Effectively Market Your Meetings

Marketing Your MeetingsMarketing has become increasingly important to the meeting industry over the last few years. It is never too early to remind your potential attendees of why they want to attend your meeting. Here are some ways to get the word out about your meeting:

  • Announce the meeting date as early as possible. Send out "save the date" cards in the mail, or via e-mail.

  • Post photos of previous meetings and/or photos of the destination city on Facebook, website, blog, etc.

  • Do extensive research on who your potential attendees are so you are targeting the correct people.
  • Work with the meeting city’s tourism office to promote the meeting, since it has a vested interest in a good turnout. Many tourism offices already have marketing programs in place so why recreate the wheel?
  • Post a clickable brochure on your website, blog, Facebook page, etc.

  • Create a podcast for pre-discussion of meeting topics.

  • Work with targeted associations to co-market your meeting.

  • Offer incentives for early registration, including an escalating fee schedule.
  • Create a page on your website about the specific event and update it frequently.

  • Send out frequent meeting notices to your network on LinkedIn.

  • Create a group on Meetup.com for the upcoming meeting and update it frequently.

  • Put frequent reminders and meeting updates in your electronic and print newsletters.

  • Create Twitter updates (“tweets”) on speakers, events, and other meeting-specific details.

  • Frequently write blog posts about meeting plans, topics, speaker profiles, the destination city, etc.

  • Create an event or group on Facebook, specifically dedicated to your meeting.

  • Constantly update your Facebook or LinkedIn statuses with meeting updates.
