Case Study: Lab Integration Project

Image Audiovisuals recently worked with a private government contractor to design and build its presentation space. We collaborated with the design team - from conception to completion – to develop the architectural and technology aspects of the space. Since the AV system is a prominent part of each room, it was crucial that all variables were accounted for - from the structural support of the video walls to the ergonomics of the layout. The project’s timeline was only three months, so a compressed construction schedule was critical. It was necessary to pay close attention to every intricate detail, so constant coordination was required during the construction phase to insure that quality was never compromised.

It was important to maintain a constant sense of urgency, so the client would feel confident in their investment. This approach is the defining difference between a commodity dealer and a “solution” provider. Image AV, a solution provider, prides itself on utilizing a teamwork approach. This enables our project managers to communicate the construction status and estimated completion dates, while adapting to the variables of any construction schedule.

Layout - Two Labs and a Large Office Area

Lab #1

Lab #1 has video wall with (24) 52” NEC monitors configured in a tile layout (2x12), along with twelve workstations on a curved wall. The client has the ability to do any series of routing to the monitors, or to enlarge any workstation onto a 2x2 monitor configuration. There are (12) 19” monitors integrated into a glass wall system along the video wall, which have the ability to display any content. This control was provided by Crestron.

At the corner of the room, there is a facilitator’s workstation, providing a variety of control functionality, including for the Matrix Video control and lighting. The most impressive feature is the ability to predefine and store “Scenes,” which allows the user to create lighting presets and video routing in advance, and store them into one of forty scenes. This enables the user to predefine routing configurations, so the matrix video is recallable during the presentation.

Lab #2

Lab #2 has sixteen monitors and sixteen workstations that are housed in two “POD” areas. Each pod area has a dedicated 17” Widescreen touch panel, located on a client table, allowing users to preview any workstation within the lab. In addition, the workstation can be sent to the conference area for further collaboration and discussion.

Office Area

Image AV provided its client a collaborative Microsoft Surface table, along with a dining area with a CATV (with a control system for the sound masking system). Image AV also designed an office with basic collaboration and presentation capabilities.
